01 / YOUR FIRST EXPEDITION

How to play Farflung Unlimited

Farflung Unlimited is a geography game with more than one right answer. Each expedition has five clues about countries, from capitals and languages to borders and regions. You select one country for each clue. A valid answer earns distance, with less familiar countries worth more according to their assigned tier.

Instead of waiting for tomorrow’s puzzle, Unlimited lets you start another five-clue expedition. The challenge is to move beyond your first answer without losing the certainty that it actually fits.

  1. Choose your pace, then Play Unlimited. Classic gives you 60 seconds per clue. Wander lets you think without a clock. Unlimited starts a fresh expedition whenever you want another set.
  2. Read the condition and its note. A clue about an official language is different from one about a widely spoken language. Check exactly what counts before choosing.
  3. Select a country and confirm. Click or tap the map, or use country search for small islands and hard-to-find places. Selecting a country is a preview; confirming submits your one answer.
  4. Read the field notes, then keep travelling. Check whether your country counted, explore the accepted alternatives and continue. After five clues, review your total distance and answer log before starting another expedition.

02 / SET YOUR COURSE

Daily, Unlimited, Classic or Wander?

These choices control two different things. Daily or Unlimited chooses the clue set. Classic or Wander chooses the clock. You can play an Unlimited expedition at either pace.

Choose your questions, then your paceSwipe to see all columns →
ChoiceWhat it changesWhen to choose it
DailyClue setThe same five clues for that UTC date, resetting at midnight UTC.Compare a shared expedition with friends.
UnlimitedClue setFive clues from a shuffled queue. Start again after each expedition; clues can repeat once the queue cycles.Keep practising without waiting for a new day.
ClassicPace60 seconds for each clue. A timeout earns zero.Practise making a decision under time pressure.
WanderPaceNo timer. Accepted countries and scoring stay the same.Explore the map and learn unfamiliar answers.

Daily and Unlimited have separate saves, so an Unlimited run does not replace your Daily result. Choose your pace before a new expedition: resuming an unfinished one keeps its original mode. If you start over while an Unlimited expedition is unfinished, the game asks before replacing it.

03 / MAKE EACH PIN COUNT

Farflung scoring: 40 to 100 km

Every country has a fixed familiarity tier in this edition. The same country earns the same distance whenever it is a valid answer, even under a different clue. Scores do not change with live player choices, and submitting faster adds no distance.

Common40 km
Uncommon55 km
Rare70 km
Elusive85 km
Farflung100 km

A wrong answer, skip or timeout earns 0 km. Five Farflung-tier answers would total 500 km, but not every clue has a 100 km answer. The ceiling is useful context, not a promise that every expedition can reach it. Start by getting five correct answers, then use the field notes to find where you could have travelled farther.

04 / READ THE LANDSCAPE

Geography clue examples

A useful shortlist contains several countries you can explain. The examples below show how to build one and where an easy misreading can cost a round. They are geography practice examples, not today’s answers or a list of guaranteed rarity tiers.

From the clue to a defensible countrySwipe to see all columns →
Example clueCountries to considerWhat to check
Portuguese is an official languageBrazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cabo VerdeOfficial status matters; a country having Portuguese speakers is not enough.
The capital starts with DSenegal — Dakar; Bangladesh — Dhaka; Ireland — DublinUse the capital’s name, not the country’s name or its largest city.
A country in South AmericaGuyana, Suriname, UruguaySeparate the continent from language groups such as Latin America.
A landlocked countryLaos, Paraguay, BotswanaA river or lake does not give a country an ocean coastline.
Shares a land border with GermanyDenmark, Poland, LuxembourgBeing nearby or across a stretch of sea does not count as a land border.
Uses the euroMalta, Slovenia, EstoniaCheck the currency itself; European Union membership alone is not enough.

Some clues depend on a date, a membership list or a specific definition. Read the prompt’s note rather than relying on a broad association. A river’s main course is different from its drainage basin; current membership is different from former membership.

Capital clues also reward precision: Australia’s capital is Canberra, not Sydney. For country selection, use the game’s atlas and available names. A familiar territory may not be a selectable country.

05 / PLACE YOUR PIN

Map controls and country search

The world map is unlabeled, so finding a valid answer and locating it are separate skills. Pan and zoom to move around the map. On a phone, zoom before selecting a small country near several borders; a hurried tap can select its neighbour.

  • Use search for precise selection. Type a country’s name and select the matching result. This is especially helpful for island states, microstates and countries that are hard to distinguish at the current zoom.
  • Read the selected name. A map tap is only a preview. You can switch to another country before pressing Confirm Country.
  • Confirm only when ready. Searching or moving the map does not submit an answer. Confirming does, and each clue allows one submission.
  • Explore after the reveal. The field notes and highlighted map show accepted countries. Open the full list to compare answers you did not consider.

Map and search selections score identically. Use the map to build your geographic memory and search when accuracy matters more than locating a tiny outline.

06 / TRAVEL FARTHER

A practical Farflung strategy

  1. Find a safe answer first. Read the whole clue, including its condition, and name one country you are confident qualifies. Keep it as a fallback while you consider alternatives.
  2. Search your memory by region. For a language clue, think beyond the largest country associated with that language. For a border clue, work around the neighbouring countries in order. A deliberate scan is easier than chasing random obscure names.
  3. Check the alternative before switching. Ask what fact makes it valid. Being remote, small or unfamiliar does not by itself qualify a country or guarantee a high tier. If you cannot explain the match, keep your reliable answer.
  4. Leave time to submit. In Classic, use the final part of the minute to select, check the name and confirm. Around 15 seconds remaining is a useful personal cutoff for exploring new options, not a separate game rule. The clock keeps running through menus and tab switches.
  5. Learn one alternative from the field notes. After the reveal, pick an unfamiliar accepted country and remember why it fits. That gives your next expedition a concrete improvement instead of just another score.

After five clues, review where you lost distance: a misread condition, an incorrect fact, a wrong map selection or a valid answer in a lower tier. Each calls for a different fix. The answer log helps you see which one to practise.

07 / FROM THE SEA TO THE MAP

Farflung vs Krillion

If you enjoy finding rare answers in Krillion, Farflung gives that instinct a geographical focus. Both reward a valid answer beyond the obvious, but they ask you to make different choices.

Farflung Unlimited

Five clues, country selection on a map or through search, and one submitted answer per clue. Countries have fixed familiarity tiers. Choose a 60-second clock or untimed Wander.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Farflung Unlimited FAQ

How do I play Farflung Unlimited?

Load the game above, then choose Play Unlimited on its start screen. Read each geography clue, select a country on the map or through country search, and confirm your choice. Each expedition has five clues. Finish one and start another whenever you like.

Is Farflung Unlimited free?

The edition hosted at FarflungGame.com is free to play in a browser, with no download or account required. This page loads that third-party game when you press Play Farflung.

Can I play without a timer?

Yes. Select Wander before starting an expedition for untimed play. Classic gives you 60 seconds per clue. In either mode, you get one submitted answer per clue.

Can I change my country or try again?

You can change the selected country before pressing Confirm Country. Once you confirm, that is your one submitted answer for the clue. A wrong answer earns zero; you do not get another attempt on that clue.

Is 500 km possible on every expedition?

No. Five correct answers in the 100 km Farflung tier would total 500 km, but some clues have no accepted country in that tier. Treat 500 km as the theoretical ceiling. A country’s fixed familiarity tier determines its distance; answering faster or being the only player to choose it adds no bonus.

Does the clock pause when I open a menu?

No. In Classic, the timer continues while a menu is open, when you switch tabs or when you leave the game. Choose Wander before a new expedition if you need time to explore. Resuming an expedition keeps the pace you originally selected.

Can I play Farflung on a phone?

Yes. Tap the map to select a country and zoom or pan when needed. Country search is especially useful for small islands and microstates. Check the selected country’s name before confirming; the search and map use the same answer rules and scoring.

Does Farflung save my progress?

The embedded edition stores progress in the browser, including Daily attempts, the current Unlimited expedition and journey totals. It does not provide account-based syncing between devices. Another browser has separate data, and clearing site data removes saves. Browser restrictions can also affect storage inside an embedded game.

Is this the official Farflung game?

This page embeds the independent edition at FarflungGame.com. The official game is published by Farflung LLC at farflung.game and uses its own prompts and rulings. Krillion Game is an independent site; the guide below describes the embedded edition.

Why is the game blank or taking a long time to load?

The game loads from another website after you press Play Farflung. Check your connection and refresh this page if loading stalls. Content blockers, browser settings or a temporary problem at the game host can also prevent it from loading.
